The short game is the area where all students can and will spend a large majority of practice time.

I have yet to come across a great player who does not have a great short game. These great short game players become great because of hard work and understanding of proper short game fundamentals.

At TSGI we will go over all short game fundamentals and all short game shots: putting, chipping, bunker play, pitch shots, distance wedges will all be covered. Also, we will cover specialized short game shots such as: buried lies, uneven slopes, hard pan and tight lies, flop shots, bump and runs, thick rough shots to a tight pin and many more specialized shots.

Each student will get a handout of how to execute each short game shot which has a complete description of the fundamentals on how to execute the shot properly. TSGI students will be giving a personalized-individualized short game blueprint as well. The short game blueprint will go over their current faults and what they need to do to correct their faults. Drills and touch and feel exercises will then be given so that the student can enhance their feel and improve in a quicker fashion.

A large percentage of short game practice will take place out on the golf course so that TSGI students can work on real golf course situations and learn to trust their mechanics. This is an extremely important step in becoming a great short game player and it is one advantage that TSGI students have over any other golf academy.

Throughout the last 14 years teaching top level junior players I have come up with hundreds of drills and exercises in the short game area that will make the students more productive. These drills and exercises will be challenging and yet fun at the same time. As the school year goes by each student will have their set drills which helps them individually improve their game.

Each TSGI student will be skill tested in the short game area three times during the school year and the results will be e-mailed to both student and parents. Also each student will be put on the SAM PUTT LAB putting analyzer. The SAM PUTT LAB is an innovative putting tool which gives accurate information on items such a putter path, impact point and face angle at impact.

I cannot over emphasize how important a good short game is for good golf. That is why at TSGI we will spend a large majority of time practicing and working on developing a great short game.
