Course Management

At TSGI we place a great importance on training and instructing our students on the proper tools for developing a great course management mind set.

All students at TSGI will be trained in SMART GOLF.golf course management

SMART GOLF is all about using your mind efficiently and effectively to maximize a players scoring potential. SMART GOLF focuses on the following topics: creating a strategy for each shot, hole and round of golf, managing ones game and emotions, proper playing attitude, taking responsibility for the player's actions and decisions and trusting of their decisions. Each one of these topics will be covered in depth with the students.

Other SMART GOLF topics that will be covered are: creating a Strength and Areas of Improvement Profile, which helps a player analyze and assess their golf game so as to help them create a game plan for improvement. Each month we will fill out a Strength and AOI profile.
Keeping statistics is vitally important in SMART GOLF so that the player will be able to see where their golf game is strong and where it needs improvement. We will keep the following statistics: fairways( if fairway is missed it will be notes as well, ex- hook left-HL), greens(if you missed will be noted), putts, up and downs, sand saves, penalty shots, score on par 3's, 4's, par 5's and every 6 holes. Statistics sheets will be given to each player so as to monitor their progress throughout the year.

Preparation for a golf shot involves five areas which will be covered in course management training. They are: 1. Surveying each shot. 2. Plan/Visualization. 3. Rehearsal Swing. 4. Execution. 5. Acceptance of shot. These five steps will be covered everyday that the students are on the golf course and the students will have a complete understanding of how to prepare correctly for a golf shot.

Colored Course Conditions(green light, red light and yellow light pins), Level of Playing(A, B, and C game) quality practice, creating a practice guide, how to properly execute a practice round, fundamentals of hitting off of different lies, slopes, wind conditions and weather elements will also be taught. All the information given to the students about course management will be in the SHARP and SMART book as well as in various handouts.

Once a week I will meet with the students inside to go over a course management topic. We will discuss the topic and then during the remainder of the week we will practice putting the information to use on the golf course. Either I or my assistant will always be on the golf course with the students at all times helping them implement their new information.

I also will have the students participate in games and exercises on the golf course that challenge their mind and make them focus intently on their course management goals.
